A Story of Remarkable Change

ed is twelve years old from Hajjah governorate. His father died when he was young, and his mother married another man after her husband death. Ahmed could not bear living with his stepfather, so he went to live with his uncle. Due to conflict and difficult conditions in the country, Ahmed’s uncle and his wife were displaced to Al-Hazm district in Al-Jawf governorate, as Ahmed joined them. When they were in Al-Hazm, Ahmed wanted to continue his studies but he was not accepted because he did not bring the necessary documents with him. So, he was involved in helping his uncle and working with him as well. One day, a woman came to Al-Hazm CFS with a child who seemed shy and introverted, and said, ‘I want to register Ahmed in this space’, and asked about registration fees – that women is Ahmed’s Uncle Wife. Meanwhile, she got informed that registration is completely free as it’s funded by UNICEF. She’s been told that activities in CFSs help to develop children's skills, build their capacities, and also help them to overcome the severe restrictions and problems they might face. So, he got registered in the CFS. At the beginning, he was an introvert, never spoke to anyone, and did not play with his peers. Day by day, with psychosocial support sessions and various activities, he started to love the space, and became one of daily attendees. He participated in all activities without fear or introversion. He, also, attended non-formal education and became one of the distinguished children in this space.
