Mrs. Qafla, is a family householder from Al-Jawf Governorate. She was displaced with her family from Al-Ghayl district to Al-Hazm District four years ago due to conflict. Her goal was to find a safe place for her children. Since then, the family has been living in difficult living conditions and has no source of income to support her four children one of whom suffers from deterioration in brain function and needs constant medication.
Qafla's family was assessed by YARD protection team Within Protection Project funded buy UNHCR and was provided with Multi- Purpose Cash assistance. She decided to use this cash assistance for creating her own income source that enables her access basic needs for her children considering this cash assistance not coming once again by the donor.
Qafla knows that the cash assistance may not continue or be repeated, as she thought of using the cash assistance to achieve her own project to reach a continuous source of income with which she can cover their basic needs.
Qafla bought a sewing machine and began to learn basic sewing skills. She even sought the help of one of her colleagues who had previous experience in the art of sewing materials required by the local markets. Qafla was able to master her artistic sewing skills. She shared her products with relatives, and her project began to spread among the community until she became a famous sewer and her products became required in the markets.
Qaflah expressed her deep happiness to have her own income through which she can collect money and buy basic needs for her children and medicine for her sick daughter. Qafla confidentially said, “We were affected by the war and forced to displace waiting for humanitarian assistance that might not come. I decided to start my small project for me and my children. Thanks to Allah. We also thank UNHCR for this cash assistance. I advise those receiving such assistance to use it for improving income source for their families."
