UNHCR Delegation, Al Gawf Governor and SCMCHA Head of Office Get Briefed on the Extent of Damage in the Destroyed Houses in Al-Ghayl District
On July 7, 2022, UNHCR delegation representatives paid a field visit to Al Ghayl district in Al Jawf governorate to get briefed on the destroyed houses. The visiting team was welcomed by the governor Faisal Haidar, SCMCHA office manager in Al Jawf governorate Mr. Khalid Hamoud Shaja'a and the Senior Management Team of Yemen AL Khair for Relief and Development Foundation (YARD)
The team was welcomed by the governor who highly appreciated their important visit hoping that UNHCR will expand its intervention through provision of more sustainable projects such as rehabilitation of destroyed houses in order for the IDPs and war affected people to return and live safely in their original locations.
In addition, the visiting team visited the central area of AL Ghayl district and got briefed on the partial and total destroyed houses. They also got briefed on the previous service projects that were destroyed during the war and stopped working.
UNHCR delegation represented by Mr. John and Mrs. Arty required initial statistics for the damaged houses in the district. The head of YARD Eng. Abdullah Thawaba stated that YARD team have conducted an assessment process for the damaged houses in cooperation with SCMCHA and found out that 204 houses were totally destroyed while 411 ones have partial destruction.
During the visit, the team discussed with YARD SMT and SCMCHA the status que and the critical living situation experienced by the population of the district including IDPs, returnees and host community mainly those living in the partially destroyed houses having no windows, no doors and have no access to basic services including health, education, Electricity, WASH except the ones provided through YARD under the fund of UNHCR within IDPs CC protection activities which provides NFIs, ESKs, MPCA etc.
For his part Mr. Abdullah Al Hadi, UNHCR field associate in Sa'adah field office stated that UNHCR is planning to provide emergency T.S shelter assistances for IDPs and war affected population through (YARD), its implementing partner in AL Jawf governorate. However, SCMCHA, local authorities and interviewed affected HHs assured their serious need for rehabilitating their destroyed houses instead where they can live safely having no protection risks.
