The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General at UN Visits Al-Jawf Governorate

On Sunday 01/08/2021, Mr. William David the deputy special representative of the secretary general at UN, visited Al-Jawf governorate with the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation Mr. Abdul Mohsen Al-Tawos, and the Governor of Al-Jawf governorate Mr. Faisal bin Haidar, to observe the humanitarian situation and assess the humanitarian need of the governorate. As Al-Jawf is considered the third governorate in Yemen in terms of the number of displaced persons.
 
The visiting team roamed over the conflict-affected district and observed the massive damage of Al-Ghayl district inhabitants' shelters, to which citizens were unable to return back. In the meantime, the team visited Yemen Al Khair Foundation Office Eng. Abdullah Thawabah the chairman and the executive director Eng. Jamal bahaj and a number of project managers of the foundation. During the visit a meeting was held between the team and the representatives of the National Foundation for Relief and Development, discussing topics related to the humanitarian need of Al-Jawf governorate and the challenges faced by humanitarian actors in the area.
 
It is worth mentioning that, the visiting team visited the Western Mehzam Desalination Plant as part of the emergency WASH response project implemented by YARD funded by UNICEF. During the visit, the visiting team observed the mechanism of the water plant's operation by the project manager. After that, the team moved to the IDPs community center in the district of Al-Marashi, which is managed by YARD and funded by UNHCR. The team observed the working mechanism of the CC and the provided services as well as difficulties and challenges.
 
At the end of the visit, the visiting team expressed their gratitude for the hospitality attitude, mentioning that the needs of IDPs were taken into consideration.
