Rapid Response Mechanism during the First Quarter of 2023
Floods continue in March as climate crisis exacerbates humanitarian situation and remain another key driver of displacements in Yemen. It has been found that the majority of affected people are living in spontaneous IDP settlements which tend to be flood-prone locations and exposed to severe protection risks, and this plays a critical role in increasing the number of the affected families and aggravating the humanitarian situation in the affected areas. Despite these risks, most of the affected residents decided not to leave their location as they have nowhere to go regardless to flood damages resulted. According to the field assessment, it has been found that about 62 HHs were affected, (29 HHs were totally affected and 33 HHs Partially affected), where most of families’ shelters and belongings such as NFIs, livestock, and other essential live needs were either spoiled or washed away, yet they were all found in dire need to the basic humanitarian assistance.
YARD in response to the situation, responded to the affected families by distributing 62 RRM kits, targeting a total of 400 Ind. In addition, it is worth mentioning that all IDPs assisted with RRM kits during 2023 were directly referred to service providers for more humanitarian assistance as to put those IDPs as a HIGH priority for any upcoming assistances including Multi-purpose Cash, ESKs, and NFIs.
