On the 4th of October ,2023, UNHCR Yemen MENA joint PI team along with UNHCR Sa'adah FO team conducted one day visit to AL Jawf governorate to capture some of UNHCR/ YARD tangible and impactful interventions for wider visibility purposes. The visiting team alos aimed to monitor YARD ongoing activities in the field. The team first arrived to AL Hazm district where it was welcomed by head of YARD the YARD staff. The visit started in Assa'adah school where YARD implemented two QIPs last year and constructed four new additional classes in order for student to learn. When arrived to the school, the team visited students in the classes and got briefed on the number of students, teaching staff and conducted an interview with the school manager who explained the needs of the school for construction of additional classes and other facilities as there are a lot of students joining education in this school. YARD chairman clarified to the team that QIPs are considered the most impactful activities that reflect very positive outcomes in all sectors including education. The field officer alos explained to the visiting team the importance of such activities in AL Jawf governorate and the serious need of students for educational spaces to join education. From their side, the visiting team highly appreciated such impactful activities as the school was found joining a lot of students of both genders most of whom still learn under hot tents exposed to serious risks. They assured that they will raise such needs to UNHCR senior management to expand its intervention in education center so as to provide safe educational spaces for students as per their need.
The visiting team then moved to visit a bee keeper in the same area of the district and got briefed on how the weather fits the bee keeping and how the change of weather affects honey production. The visiting team did an interview with the bee keeper who has a lot of bees' nests and listened to detailed explanation about the nature of bee keeping in the governorate and the weather challenges bee keepers face during the year.
After that the team moved to visit the materials of Transitional Shelter construction in YARD stock and got briefed on the existing materials. They talked to the contractor who is responsible for construction of the T.S in AL Ghayl district and provided him with some instructions.
The last visit was paid to AL Ghayl district where YARD rehabilitated 209 partially damaged houses last year and conducted new assessment for new damaged houses to rehabilitated this year. The team arrived to the district and visited some houses to get briefed on rehabilitation works. They met some returnee householders who expressed their happiness and thanks for UNHCR and YARD for this support without which they wouldn’t be able to come back to their houses.
UNHCR visiting team expressed their deep sense of thanks for YARD efforts that led to successful implementation of these projects which aimed at supporting IDP families return to their homes and build their life again after displacement. In addition, UNHCR team appreciated the endless exerted efforts of SCMCHA office in AL Jawf governorate that provided all possible support and facilitation for implementing these effective activities.
